Role Overview

As a Senior Planning Engineer specializing in Biosolids, you will be an integral part of the Strategy & Planning team, focusing on advancing Auckland's biosolids management solutions. Under the guidance of the Manager - Biosolids Planning, your role is to provide strategic and technical leadership in optimizing biosolids processing, including supporting the closure of the Puketutu Island landfill and delivering future servicing solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical planning and workstreams to develop future biosolids servicing options.
• Contribute to the execution of the Mangere Biosolids Servicing Project.
• Formulate strategies and site-specific biosolids servicing solutions across the wastewater treatment framework.
• Forge and maintain collaborative relationships with internal teams, consultants, local councils, iwi, and community stakeholders.
• Offer technical expertise, oversee project progress, manage reporting, and supervise financial aspects of designated projects.
• Encourage and support initiatives related to resource recovery and sustainability within the wastewater network.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer with a strong blend of technical knowledge, strategic insight, and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Holds a degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Process Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Brings a minimum of six years of pertinent engineering experience.
• Has experience within wastewater treatment plants, landfill operations, or comparable sectors connected to infrastructure planning or operation.
• Exhibits excellent analytical, project management, and communication capabilities.
• Demonstrates ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
• Possesses a proactive, problem-solving approach with passion for sustainable environmental outcomes.

Experience specifically in biosolids, sludge or waste servicing systems and familiarity with environmental regulatory requirements is preferred.
