Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior or Associate Earthing Engineer to join our energetic Studies team within our New Zealand or Australian offices. This position involves working with a respected and specialised team on varied projects spanning multiple sectors domestically and internationally. Candidates with a solid earthing background in the high voltage (HV) industry and a desire to deepen their expertise in earthing are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute earthing analyses and design, covering Earthing & Bonding, Lightning Performance, Earth Potential Rise (EPR), Low Frequency Induction (LFI), Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF), and Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) assessments.
- Lead technical project delivery using industry-standard software like CDEGS and PSCAD.
- Serve as technical lead by reviewing and verifying work outputs, ensuring quality control and technical standards.
- Contribute to business development by collaborating with Client Account Managers to secure new projects.
- Mentor junior engineers, fostering growth in earthing and electromagnetic study expertise.
- Perform on-site inspections and testing including soil resistivity, current injection, and EMF/EMI measurements.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Section Leaders to meet both technical and commercial objectives.
- Maintain strong client relationships across public and private sectors.
- Optional leadership duties may include workload management, guidance, staff development discussions, onboarding, and enhancing team engagement, accounting for about 10-15% of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience conducting earthing studies in various infrastructure sectors such as substations, transmission lines, rail, water, mining, airports, and industrial facilities.
- Expertise with software tools like CDEGS and PSCAD.
- Exceptional technical writing, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong dedication to quality and risk management, ensuring dependable technical outputs.
- Experience mentoring and supporting junior engineers within collaborative teams.
- Ability to work cooperatively across global teams.
- Willingness to engage in fieldwork, including site inspections and testing procedures.
- Previous team leadership or people management experience is advantageous but not essential; leadership opportunities exist for those interested.
