Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced geotechnical engineer ready to take charge of technical project delivery. This senior position offers significant career advancement opportunities without hierarchical limitations. You will lead projects from investigation to design, reporting, and construction support while mentoring less experienced engineers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all technical aspects of geotechnical projects including investigations, designs, reporting, and construction support activities.
- Develop intricate designs, technical reports, and drawings related to natural hazards, land development, subdivisions, and infrastructure.
- Guide and mentor graduate and intermediate engineers by reviewing work, enhancing judgement, and fostering confidence both in fieldwork and office tasks.
- Examine reports, calculations, and drawings to confirm that recommendations are sound, defendable, and suitable.
- Analyze field data, subcontractor findings, and GIS data to deliver clear, well-founded engineering advice.
- Oversee the creation and review of 2D and 3D CAD drawings produced by technical staff.
- Handle daily project management including defining scopes, scheduling, and ensuring projects progress within timeframes and budgets.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant engineering degree.
- At least 10 years of consulting experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Progressing towards Chartered status or already chartered.
- Strong familiarity with New Zealand's regulatory framework.
- Proficient with leading geotechnical design software and committed to quality assurance protocols.
- Demonstrated passion for nurturing talent and developing people along with managing projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation applicable in consulting and site environments.
