Technical Director - Structural Engineering

About the Role

An international multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a seasoned Technical Director to lead its Auckland-based team. This leadership role involves overseeing New Zealand's most prominent building projects, forging meaningful client partnerships, and guiding the development of a high-performing engineering team.

The projects managed involve some of the country's most significant and structurally intricate constructions, including large-scale commercial buildings, high-rise developments, and substantial upgrades of existing structures.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the execution of large, complex structural projects from initial concept stages to final delivery
• Provide expert technical guidance for buildings with demanding structural requirements
• Establish and nurture strong client relationships throughout Auckland's market
• Drive repeat business and identify new project opportunities to foster team growth
• Assume full responsibility for project results including quality standards, scheduling, commercial outcomes, and delivery milestones
• Collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, and project partners to address challenging structural engineering issues
• Mentor and develop junior engineers, enhancing overall team expertise

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Extensive structural engineering experience handling large or complex building projects
• Expertise in seismic design methodologies
• Demonstrated track record of delivering high-quality structural designs under technical and commercial constraints
• Strong technical judgement paired with commercial insight
• Confidence in client engagement roles, capable of leading both technical discussions and project management interactions
• Experience in mentoring or supervising engineers
• A team-oriented approach coupled with proactivity and accountability for results
