About the Company and Role
This position is offered by one of the South Island’s most established construction companies, operating across Otago, Queenstown Lakes, Southland, and Mackenzie regions. The projects are diverse and technically complex, including commercial builds, wineries, heritage restorations, and luxury architectural homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed first principles estimates, cost plans, and tender submissions for both commercial and upscale residential projects.
- Manage the full tender lifecycle, including evaluating scopes, measuring quantities, obtaining subcontractor quotes, conducting value engineering, and submitting tenders.
- Assess and price risks related to commercial, construction, scheduling, health and safety, and subcontractor elements.
- Perform feasibility analysis and early budgeting; actively contribute to Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and negotiated contracts.
- Inform project teams post-award about pricing bases, risks, and project scope.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior estimators and quantity surveyors, reviewing their outputs to enhance company-wide estimating standards.
Candidate Profile
- At least 10 years of quantity surveying or estimating experience in New Zealand, backed by an appropriate qualification.
- Experience working within a main contractor environment is mandatory.
- Thorough understanding of standards NZS 4202, NZS 3902, 3910, 3915, and NZIA Conditions of Contract.
- Ability to confidently interpret drawings from diverse design consultants.
- Strong analytical capabilities and meticulous attention to detail.
- Preferred qualifications include a Diploma in Construction with a specialization in Quantity Surveying, plus familiarity with CostCon or CostX software.
- Demonstrated enthusiasm for mentoring and personal development, with aspirations toward a leadership position.
- Possession of a valid and clean New Zealand driver’s license.
