Job description
Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Catastrophe Research Analyst passionate about analyzing data, identifying trends, and translating complex scientific information into actionable insights. This role supports clients in understanding their exposure to natural hazards and catastrophe risks across New Zealand, Australia, and the broader APAC region, utilizing scientific expertise in geospatial and hazard risk data analysis to enhance risk-informed decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze extensive and complex spatial datasets related to natural hazard risks.
- Perform geospatial analyses and query data using SQL and programming languages.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to diverse stakeholders regionally.
- Collaborate with global teams across Analytics, Risk Advisory, and Broking to deliver superior client solutions.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical capabilities and enjoys distilling complex scientific and data-driven information into clear insights for clients, including non-technical audiences. Effective communication and project management skills are essential.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- A degree or equivalent background in Natural Hazards, Physical Geography, Earth Science, GIS, or a related discipline.
- Proven expertise in geospatial data analysis.
- Advanced proficiency with SQL and managing complex datasets; knowledge of programming languages like Python is beneficial.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details into practical advice.
- Strong project management experience and client relationship skills.
- Experience in catastrophe modeling or an understanding of the insurance/reinsurance sector is a plus.
