Role Overview

We are looking for an engaged Reliability Engineer to enhance the reliability, availability, maintainability, and lifecycle performance of wastewater treatment assets in the Wellington Region. This role is ideal for someone aiming to contribute practically to critical infrastructure by collaborating with operations, maintenance, asset management, and project teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement reliability improvement projects using methodologies such as Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
• Assess asset criticality, monitor condition, and optimize maintenance strategies, including predictive and preventive maintenance.
• Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control systems, civil, and process assets to guide data-driven asset management decisions.
• Investigate equipment failures, develop corrective and preventive actions, and support safety and compliance in operations.
• Utilize data from CMMS, SCADA, and condition monitoring systems to prepare reports, dashboards, and recommendations on asset performance metrics like MTBF and MTTR.
• Assist in asset lifecycle activities, including replacement, commissioning, capital works, and spares strategy development.
• Promote continuous improvement aligned with ISO 55001 and cultivate a proactive maintenance culture within the region.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will be a practical, analytical engineer comfortable working onsite with operational teams and adept at translating complex technical issues into clear, actionable solutions.

• Bachelor’s degree in Reliability Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Asset Management, or a related field.
• Minimum three years’ experience in reliability engineering, maintenance, asset management, or similar roles, preferably within water, wastewater, utilities, manufacturing, or related critical infrastructure sectors.
• Familiarity with maintenance management principles, RCM, FMEA, RCA, asset criticality, and lifecycle management.
• Strong ability to interpret P&IDs and understand process flows and equipment failures.
• Experience analyzing maintenance logs, failure data, condition monitoring outputs, and performance trends.
• Proficient in risk assessment, problem-solving, effective communication, and maintaining safety and regulatory standards.

Desirable Certifications

• Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent.
• Training in RCA, RCM, FMEA, or condition monitoring techniques.
• Qualifications in vibration analysis, thermography, motor current analysis, non-destructive testing, or other related condition monitoring disciplines.
