Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Quality Controller specialized in piping to manage and execute quality assurance activities related to pipe installation, fabrication, and welding operations within workshop and shipyard environments. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive expertise in piping inspection, welding inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), post weld heat treatment (PWHT), and pressure testing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality control inspections following Quality Management System (QMS) standards, procedures, and project requirements.
- Inspect pipe installation, fabrication, fit-up, and welding work to ensure strict adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
- Oversee fit-up and welding inspections to verify compliance with technical and quality standards.
- Supervise fabrication processes to minimize rework and guarantee quality at every stage.
- Coordinate and arrange Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as specified by project Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Monitor Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) activities, confirming conformity with project directives.
- Observe and verify pressure testing tasks as required by project scope.
- Detect, document, and track quality issues, delays, and non-conformities; enforce corrective measures where necessary.
- Assist supervisors in developing Inspection and Test Procedures (ITPs) for designated projects.
- Maintain comprehensive inspection documentation, including records, reports, and checklists.
- Conduct continuous in-process inspections aiming for minimal or zero rework.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement initiatives within the piping department.
- Collaborate closely with supervisors, welders, fabricators, engineers, and project teams to ensure quality objectives are met.
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies alongside quality standards.
- Promote safe, productive workplace practices among all employees and contractors.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions or any quality-related concerns.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Piping Engineering, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in piping quality control or inspection, preferably in shipyard, marine, oil and gas, or heavy industry projects.
- Solid understanding of pipe fabrication, installation, fit-up, and welding inspection processes.
- Proficient knowledge of NDT, PWHT, pressure testing, and piping inspection protocols.
- Familiarity working with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), QMS procedures, and project specifications.
- Ability to identify fabrication and installation defects, non-conformities, and potential quality issues.
- Strong knowledge of relevant piping, welding, and quality standards and regulations.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports and coordinate effectively with teams.
- Dedicated commitment to quality, safety practices, and continuous improvement efforts.
Preferred Certifications
- CSWIP or AWS Welding Inspector certification
- ASNT or PCN NDT certification
- NDT Level II certification
- Relevant QA/QC certifications
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards
