Project Planner

Overview

Designer Group is seeking a skilled Project Planner / Scheduler with hands-on experience in construction projects who understands how work progresses on site beyond theoretical planning. This role involves active participation in project delivery by collaborating with Project Managers, Commercial teams, and site leaders to develop and maintain realistic, actionable programmes that reflect the true dynamics of construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and maintain detailed, resource-integrated project schedules using tools such as Primavera P6 and MS Project.
• Collaborate closely with site and project teams to ensure that plans accurately represent real construction sequences.
• Identify risks, potential delays, and critical pressure points early, and promote effective solutions to mitigate them.
• Conduct "what-if" analyses to evaluate the effects of changes in construction methodology or task sequencing.
• Provide clear and precise progress reporting focusing on milestones and critical path activities.
• Assist project teams with short-term scheduling and lookahead plans.
• Critically assess assumptions and offer practical planning guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Continuously monitor site progress and adjust programmes to reflect actual delivery.
• Support commercial and project teams with planning input related to contract variations and claims.

Candidate Requirements

• Proven experience as a Planner or Scheduler in construction or mechanical and electrical (M&E) contracting.
• Deep understanding of on-site project delivery processes, beyond theoretical scheduling.
• Proficient in Primavera P6 and/or MS Project scheduling software.
• Capable of reading and interpreting drawings, construction sequencing, and methodologies.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to work effectively with site teams, project managers, and senior leadership.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, deadline-sensitive environment.
• Ambitious, proactive, and confident in challenging assumptions when necessary.
