Role Overview

The Principal Software Developer, based in Galway, Ireland, will shape and communicate the technical vision for SOTI’s Signal and Location Services and related applications. The position involves hands-on coding, architecting APIs, web UIs, and backend services, ensuring high performance and security, and driving technical excellence within the teams. This role demands a passion for modern technologies and solving challenging problems creatively.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect core product components, including APIs, services, middleware, and UIs.
• Develop maintainable C# code contributing to major architectural elements.
• Ensure non-functional aspects such as scalability, performance, and security meet product goals.
• Document and promote best software design and engineering practices across teams.
• Provide code reviews and guide teams on optimization and secure coding.
• Prototype and validate solutions, including complex architectural challenges.
• Address and reduce technical debt to maintain long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to define technical strategies.
• Maintain architectural documentation, roadmaps, and reusable design artifacts.
• Mentor developers and QA engineers to foster growth and technical excellence.
• Monitor emerging technologies and lead their implementation within the organization.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive knowledge of Computer Science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, design patterns, and software architecture.
• Over ten years of experience designing, architecting, and implementing multi-tier software applications.
• Proficient in programming languages and frameworks such as .NET, JavaScript, Angular, Node.js, and MVC.
• Strong experience using relational databases (MS SQL Server) and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure for application deployment.
• Good understanding of CI/CD processes and integrating tools like SonarCube for code quality.
• Ability to solve complex business problems with flexible, creative technical solutions.
• Expertise in software architectural patterns and documenting design principles.
• Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Experienced in agile methodologies, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, and QA.
• Self-motivated with a positive attitude and initiative-taking capabilities.
• Preferred formal education in Computer Science or Mathematics.

Additional Information

The position operates on a hybrid model requiring a minimum of three days onsite weekly, with flexibility for additional office presence to support the team.
