Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager to lead impactful teams within the PlayStation SDK Developer Host Tools division. This position demands a balanced leader who can both manage top-performing teams and maintain deep technical expertise to direct architecture, review designs, and offer hands-on engineering support as necessary.
The role spans backend distributed systems and web or native frontends, with the responsibility to create solutions that are technically robust and user-friendly for developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of engineers, cultivating a collaborative and positive workplace culture.
- Engage in technical discussions, provide code reviews, and contribute to system design efforts.
- Collaborate effectively with teams and groups across multiple time zones.
- Drive the team’s objectives while aligning with established goals.
- Manage daily activities with a focus on long-term team success.
- Enhance the developer experience by emphasizing usability, system performance, and reliability.
- Identify challenges, remove barriers, and clarify tasks in ambiguous or evolving situations.
Qualifications and Experience
- 7 to 10 years of comprehensive software engineering experience, including 3 to 5+ years leading engineering teams.
- Strong technical foundation with practical knowledge of backend and platform fundamentals.
- Ability to delve into code-level details, including design reviews and debugging, to guide engineering efforts.
- Proven track record designing and delivering complex distributed systems.
- Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
- Background in developer tools, internal platform development, or productivity systems.
- Effective stakeholder management and ability to align cross-team objectives.
- Excellent communication skills tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capability to thrive in dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous environments.
Desirable Skills
- Solid understanding of frontend technologies such as JavaScript, React, and React Native.
- Familiarity with AI/ML-driven workflows or developer tooling.
- Experience with performance profiling and developer ecosystem tools.
- Proficiency with C# and .NET frameworks.
- Experience with low-level languages including Rust and C++.
Compensation and Benefits
SIE thoughtfully establishes base pay ranges considering competitive market data and geographic location influences. This role’s estimated base salary ranges from €96,900 to €145,300 EUR annually. Compensation may be adjusted based on hybrid work policies, individual qualifications including skills and experience, and job-related factors.
The position offers eligibility for premier benefits including paid leave, wellness programs, and exclusive employee discounts on Sony products. A bonus package may also be available.
