Principal Platform Engineer - Identity Platform (Authentication & Authorization)

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Platform Engineer to join our team in Dublin. This role involves hands-on building and automating platform capabilities specifically related to authentication and authorization within our next-generation AI-native enterprise software. The right candidate has a track record of designing, coding, automating, and supporting production systems, particularly in identity and access management.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain shared authentication and authorization services supporting multiple hosting environments including cloud-native and legacy platforms.
• Create reliable, repeatable infrastructure as code and automation workflows that enable engineering teams to deliver and operate software independently and securely.
• Design, build, and operate platform APIs, automation scripts, and tooling including integration and deployment pipelines with a focus on self-service and minimal manual intervention.
• Manage infrastructure and services running on Kubernetes and container platforms, ensuring resilience and scalability.
• Establish best practices and architectural patterns for identity and access control across distributed, multi-tenant enterprise environments.

Required Expertise

• Extensive hands-on experience building platform infrastructure, automation, and shared services that support software engineering delivery and operations.
• Strong software development and scripting skills for infrastructure code, automated provisioning, configuration management, deployment, and recovery in production environments.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes, container orchestration, GitOps workflows, and Infrastructure as Code on major cloud platforms.
• In-depth understanding of authentication protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, token lifecycle management, and enterprise federation including single sign-on and identity provider integration.
• Skilled in implementing fine-grained authorization models (role-based, attribute-based, relationship-based), tenant isolation, and access controls ensuring correctness, latency, and security.
• Experience diagnosing and mitigating production incidents with an emphasis on automation to prevent recurrence.
• Technical leadership skills demonstrated through design influence, code reviews, and team collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with identity systems like Curity and Keycloak, including extending and automating their deployment and lifecycle management.
• Familiarity with relationship-based authorization engines like SpiceDB and policy-as-code techniques.
• Working knowledge of Go programming language, PostgreSQL databases, and event streaming platforms such as Kafka or RedPanda.
• Background in distributed, multi-tenant system security and enterprise federation standards such as SAML.
