Key Responsibilities
- Lead and provide technical guidance across all stages of project delivery, innovating in tendering, estimating, and planning while leveraging company systems aimed at cost optimization.
- Ensure that all engineering activities comply with relevant codes, standards, contract specifications, timelines, budgets, and internal procedures.
- Plan, delegate, and supervise component tasks for onshore pipeline design, maintaining coordination with global and support teams for efficient project execution.
- Advise team members on applying standards to develop safe, sustainable, and value-driven pipeline designs and track performance against established KPIs with supportive leadership.
- Serve as the technical authority and subject matter expert for onshore pipeline engineering, validating key deliverables and design methodologies.
- Exhibit mastery in pipeline routing, sizing, hydraulic and stress analysis, wall thickness design, and ensuring constructability and stability.
- Apply sound engineering judgment to independently tackle complex technical problems.
- Provide expert guidance, coaching, and mentoring to a diverse engineering team across multiple locations, promoting a culture centered on quality, safety, and continuous advancement.
- Use deep knowledge of international codes and standards such as ASME, API, ISO, ASTM, and client-specific standards, especially those relating to Middle Eastern operators like ADNOC Onshore and QatarEnergy.
- Deliver projects ranging from Pre-FEED to detailed design within defined scopes, budgets, schedules, and quality parameters.
- Manage discipline workload, resource allocation, inter-team collaboration, and technical interfacing.
- Support project management with execution plans and risk mitigation strategies.
- Champion health, safety, and environmental principles in design and execution practices, participating in safety reviews, risk assessments, and value engineering sessions.
- Ensure rigorous quality control through verification, checking, and adherence to Worley’s Quality Management System.
- Engage proactively with clients, licensors, vendors, and construction teams to facilitate smooth technical communication and resolution of project issues.
- Balance technical expertise with commercial awareness, contributing to cost estimating, proposal support, change management, and schedule impact analyses.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pipeline engineering software such as Caesar II and analytical tools like Excel and MathCAD.
- Uphold high ethical standards, accountability, and actively contribute to innovation, standards development, and staying current with industry trends.
Specific Duties
- Lead multi-cultural, multi-location discipline teams on projects.
- Independently prepare pipeline design documentation, completing engineering activities within the project’s schedule and budget.
- Motivate and guide engineers and designers, maintaining effective communication with management and stakeholders.
- Offer technical solutions to both engineering and non-engineering challenges.
- Manage multiple deliverables efficiently.
- Optimize pipeline routes and design to meet performance and budget criteria.
- Conduct cost estimation for pipelines and associated facilities.
- Provide support during pipeline construction.
- Maintain up-to-date expertise in onshore pipeline design codes relevant to oil and gas industries.
- Coordinate input preparation for contract documentation and scope of work.
- Monitor team productivity with budget control considerations.
- Facilitate collaboration with other disciplines to ensure timely deliverable production.
- Produce technical reports and procedures.
- Interpret and verify engineering designs.
- Lead interdisciplinary coordination efforts.
- Contribute to proposals and bidding processes.
- Set and maintain high performance standards within the team.
- Ensure adherence to Quality Assurance protocols and Occupational Health & Safety procedures.
Experience and Industry Background
Demonstrated broad experience in pipeline design engineering within the oil and gas sector, including extensive exposure to Pre-FEED, FEED, and detailed design phases for onshore pipeline projects.
Educational and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Mandatory accreditation from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) with willingness to obtain within probation if not already held.
- Chartered Professional Engineer status or active pursuit thereof considered advantageous.
Technical Proficiencies
- Advanced skills with Caesar II for stress analysis.
- Competency in onshore pipeline wall thickness, buoyancy, and upheaval buckling calculations using Excel and MathCAD.
