About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to join our Christchurch office, contributing to a variety of projects spanning industrial, energy, water, power, and infrastructure sectors. This role involves involvement across all phases of projects, from initial concept and design through to supporting construction and commissioning, with a focus on delivering effective solutions that aid New Zealand’s sustainable future.

As part of collaborating with project delivery and mechanical engineering teams, you will coordinate technical work, manage stakeholder relationships, and ensure projects adhere to safety, timelines, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical engineering projects across multiple sectors including industrial, power, water, and infrastructure.
  • Oversee project phases from concept design to construction support and commissioning activities.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure project success.
  • Manage project scope, scheduling, budgets, and resource allocation effectively.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, risk evaluations, and quality control processes.
  • Support procurement processes and oversee contractor and construction activities.
  • Prioritize health, safety, and environmental standards throughout projects.
  • Generate project documentation, reports, timelines, and financial forecasts.
  • Assist business development efforts and identify growth opportunities within current and prospective clients.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in project delivery and execution methodologies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field is required.
  • Proven track record managing engineering projects within industrial, manufacturing, water, energy, or infrastructure contexts.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, piping, utilities, process plants, or rotating machinery.
  • Hands-on experience delivering full project lifecycle from design coordination to commissioning support.
  • Strong abilities in project planning, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers effectively.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, financial forecasting, and risk management for projects.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills.
  • A proactive, team-oriented, and customer-centered mindset.
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen, resident, or possess a valid work visa allowing residence and employment in New Zealand.
