Role Overview
The Pricing Officer will take charge of creating, analyzing, submitting, and upkeeping pricing models and commercial proposals for contracts in defence, nuclear, construction, infrastructure, equipment, sustainment, capability, and services sectors. This role ensures all pricing activities comply strictly with Defence procurement policies, Commonwealth frameworks, contractual requirements, and established defence pricing standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain precise, compliant, and market-competitive cost estimates and pricing models for contracts involving defence equipment, sustainment, and services.
- Generate pricing submissions for tenders, proposals, expressions of interest, and contract amendments.
- Construct and update comprehensive pricing models that incorporate labor, materials, subcontracting, overheads, risk allowances, escalation, and profit targets.
- Collaborate with bid teams to craft pricing strategies aligned with organisational goals and client needs.
- Apply defence pricing methodologies and principles to ensure conformity with Australian Government and Defence procurement standards.
- Support pricing audits, reviews, and customer transparency requirements, including documentation for price reasonableness and value-for-money justifications.
- Perform financial analyses including cost analysis, sensitivity analysis, risk evaluation, and forecasting to enhance pricing accuracy.
- Track project financial performance, monitor budgets, and assist with contract variation pricing and change proposals.
- Engage regularly with cross-functional teams—Program Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Business Development—to consolidate and verify pricing data.
- Participate in negotiations and pricing discussions with customers, and assist internal commercial review processes.
- Maintain comprehensive records, documentation, and audit trails related to pricing; produce management reports and commercial insights.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in pricing methodologies, processes, and tools.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Proven experience in pricing, commercial management, contract estimating, finance, or bid/proposal support in sectors such as defence, aerospace, construction, government, engineering, manufacturing, or services.
- Demonstrated capability in developing pricing models for contracts involving equipment, sustainment, logistics, maintenance, engineering, or professional services.
- Familiarity with defence pricing standards, cost-building techniques, and conducting value-for-money assessments.
- Strong financial modeling skills, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel with complex formulas and scenario planning.
- Ability to interpret and analyze commercial, contractual, technical, and financial information.
- Detail-oriented with aptitude for managing multiple simultaneous priorities within demanding timelines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be an Australian citizen qualified to obtain and maintain Australian Government security clearance.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Experience supporting Australian Defence Force, Department of Defence, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), or defence sector projects.
- Knowledge of ASDEFCON contracting procedures and frameworks.
- Understanding of cost estimating methodologies, earned value management, and program financial controls.
- Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Pronto, or IFS.
- Degree in Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Professional certifications like CPA, CA, CIMA, CPCM, or relevant credentials.

Additional Details
Security Clearance: Eligible to obtain Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) Baseline, progressing to NV1 clearance.
Work Locations: Primarily Adelaide, South Australia preferred, with options for Canberra or Sydney.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, full-time employment, onsite presence.
