About the Role
Amentum, a global leader providing advanced engineering and professional services to US government and allied sectors, is seeking a Certified Arborist for a unique US Navy project located on Diego Garcia island. The role involves upkeep and care of improved grounds, ensuring neat, healthy, and visually appealing environments in line with Department of Defense (DoD) landscaping protocols and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain various improved grounds including prestigious areas, POL zones, tanks, fence perimeters, pipelines, and berms complying with Service Level Standards as per J-1503050-06.
- Perform trimming and pruning on trees, shrubs, and plants promoting their health, lifespan, and appearance.
- Trim vegetation around physical structures such as fence lines, walls, signs, lighting, hydrants, sidewalks, parking areas, and building edges.
- Assess tree and plant health, identifying pest infestations, diseases, and environmental issues.
- Recommend and provide treatments for diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, implementing proper fertilization, pruning, and watering practices.
- Operate and maintain landscaping tools and machinery including chainsaws, pruners, stump grinders, and shears safely.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and responsible disposal of green waste and debris.
- Coordinate landscaping tasks and schedules with grounds maintenance teams and local facility management.
- Document all maintenance activities and inspections in accordance with contract terms.
- Respond to emergencies such as storm damage or fallen trees to maintain grounds safety.
Required Qualifications
- Current International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist credential or equivalent.
- 2 to 4 years of experience in arboriculture or grounds upkeep involving tree health evaluation, trimming, and pest/disease control.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Competency in the use and upkeep of landscaping equipment including chainsaws, pruners, and stump grinders.
- Knowledge of plant species, pruning techniques, disease diagnosis, and treatment best practices.
- Understanding and adherence to DoD-relevant landscaping and safety standards.
- Capability to manage vegetation around various structures such as fences, buildings, pipelines, and power poles.
- Physical capability to perform outdoor maintenance in diverse environmental conditions, including working at heights and heavy lifting.
- Strong communication and organizational skills for effective documentation and collaboration.
- Valid passport with at least one-year validity at hire and eligibility for international travel.
- Ability to meet and maintain contract medical and security clearance requirements throughout deployment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in austere non-continental US environments with multinational teams.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and relevant visas aligning with U.S. Department of State regulations.
- Prior experience servicing government or military landscaping projects.
- Advanced certifications such as ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Service Level Standards J-1503050-06 and safety regulations like OSHA and DoD landscaping protocols.
- Detail-oriented problem-solving skills focused on diagnosing and managing plant health.
