About the Role
Amentum, a global leader delivering advanced engineering and professional services supporting U.S. government and allied sectors, seeks a Fire Alarm Dispatcher to join a specialized U.S. Navy program located on Diego Garcia island. The position is vital to emergency operations by monitoring fire alarm systems, receiving and prioritizing emergency calls, dispatching fire service personnel, and coordinating response efforts using communication technologies.
Primary Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor fire alarm systems and respond immediately to alarm signals following established emergency procedures.
- Answer emergency phone calls, triage, and classify incidents, dispatching the appropriate fire department units promptly.
- Operate various communication devices including radios, telephones, and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) tools to manage and facilitate emergency responses.
- Maintain ongoing communication with deployed personnel, providing updated situational information in real-time.
- Accurately record details of all emergency calls, dispatched units, and response activities in logs to ensure comprehensive documentation.
- Monitor the operational status of alarm systems and promptly report any malfunctions for immediate remediation.
- Support tracking of alarm system alerts and coordinate scheduled maintenance to minimize system downtime or prevent malfunctions.
- Collaborate closely with Fire and Emergency Services teams to ensure coordinated responses during emergencies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certifications in Telecommunicator I and II, and Hazmat Awareness as per relevant standards; new employees must obtain these within 12 months of hire to work independently.
- 1 to 3 years of experience in emergency dispatch operations, fire service communications, or related fields.
- Ability to remain composed and effective in high-pressure emergency situations, ensuring accurate and timely dispatch of personnel.
- Proficiency in using communications equipment such as radios and CAD systems.
- Strong organizational ability with meticulous documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills to convey clear instructions and information.
- Ability to meet all medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout deployment.
- Capability to obtain and keep necessary facility credentials and authorizations.
Preferred Experience and Attributes
- Previous service in austere, overseas (OCONUS) environments involving multinational teams.
- Possession of a valid local driver’s license and appropriate visas as per U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Experience with emergency dispatch for government, military, or emergency organizations.
- Familiarity with U.S. Navy or Department of Defense emergency protocols related to fire alarm dispatch.
- Advanced training or certifications in emergency communication or situational response.
