Role Overview

The Recreation Services Specialist will support a specialized US Navy initiative located on Diego Garcia island. This position is responsible for organizing and facilitating recreational programs aimed at boosting morale and welfare for both military personnel and civilians. The specialist oversees recreational activities, enforces safety protocols, and ensures exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing, implementing, and managing recreation programs tailored to the needs of the military community.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations concerning hazardous material handling and storage as specified by CNICINST 1710.3, Chapter 1, Section 114.
• Oversee daily recreational services, guaranteeing smooth operations focused on safety and customer satisfaction.
• Coordinate setup and support for special events, sports leagues, and community-wide activities.
• Engage with patrons, address questions, and deliver professional customer service.
• Maintain and inspect recreational equipment and facilities to confirm safety compliance and operational readiness.
• Support inventory management for supplies and materials utilized in recreation programs.
• Perform additional related duties consistent with the position’s nature and requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Completion and maintenance of all mandatory training and certifications, including MWR Star Service/AECR, HAZMAT, CPR, AED, First Aid, and local emergency procedures, with required annual renewals.
• High school diploma or equivalent educational qualification.
• Experience or familiarity with recreational activities, program management, and customer service within community or military environments.
• Possession of a valid passport able to support international travel, valid for at least one year at the time of hiring.
• Capability to obtain appropriate visas complying with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to satisfy medical standards required for contract deployment and maintain such for the duration of assignment.
• Eligibility to acquire and hold necessary facility credentials and authorization. Must have proficient English language skills for contract execution and emergency protocols compliance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or a related field is advantageous.
• Previous background working in military or austere settings within recreational services or MWR programs.
• Demonstrated expertise in delivering outstanding customer service and managing recreational initiatives effectively.
• Skills in multi-sport officiating or event coordination.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational capabilities.
