Officer - Vehicle Inspector

Overview

Mount Isa Mines is looking for a meticulous and organised Officer – Vehicle Inspector to oversee vehicle safety and compliance on site at the George Fisher Mine. This role entails inspecting all vehicles to ensure they comply with the mine's rigorous safety and operational standards and maintaining detailed records of inspections and outcomes. The role operates on a 5/2/4/3 roster.

Responsibilities

• Perform thorough inspections of light vehicles, heavy vehicles, mobile equipment, and all site vehicles entering and operating on site.
• Ensure vehicles fulfill all entry, safety, and operational criteria according to site regulations.
• Detect defects, damage, missing equipment, and any safety or compliance breaches.
• Maintain comprehensive and precise inspection records and vehicle registers.
• Issue approvals, tags, or notifications consistent with site procedures.
• Report serious defects or cases of non-compliance promptly to supervisors.
• Collaborate with employees, contractors, maintenance teams, and vehicle owners to resolve issues.
• Track unresolved defects and follow up on necessary corrective measures.
• Assist with audits, reporting, and initiatives aimed at continuous improvement.
• Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring inspections meet Mount Isa Mines’ standards.

Candidate Profile

• Experience in vehicle inspection, fleet management, compliance, or related functions.
• High attention to detail with a systematic approach to inspections and documentation.
• Good understanding of vehicle safety regulations and defect detection.
• Ability to interpret technical documents, checklists, and procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal capabilities.
• Proficiency with computers and maintaining accurate records.
• Confidence to identify and escalate non-compliance issues.
• A strong commitment to safety, integrity, and excellence in operations.
• Possession of a current driver’s licence; mechanical or heavy vehicle inspection experience is advantageous.
• Mandatory Trade Qualification in Mechanical.
