Lead Technical Architect (Baseline)

Role Overview

We invite applications to serve as Lead Technical Architect for a prominent government client based in Canberra. This role demands guiding technical strategy, influencing system engineering, championing AI integration throughout the service delivery lifecycle, and ensuring knowledge transfer across teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide authoritative leadership in architecture design, governance, and innovation for cloud-native, microservices, and AI-enabled platforms aligning with enterprise standards and security policies.
• Establish and promote advanced engineering and AI delivery best practices encompassing AI-integrated SDLC, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, observability, automated testing, and platform engineering norms to ensure secure and dependable service delivery.
• Drive technology transformation efforts by advancing microservices architectures, containerization, enterprise system integrations, and reusable pattern implementations to enhance scalability, maintainability, and robustness.
• Cultivate organizational engineering maturity through knowledge dissemination, governance, and leading cross-disciplinary teams focused on excellence and continuous improvement.

Project Context

This initiative builds the Department of Industry, Science and Resources’ inaugural enterprise microservices and event-driven architecture infrastructure, embedding AI-enabled engineering methodologies throughout the software delivery lifecycle while fostering capability transfer during deployment.

Essential Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in designing, implementing, and managing cloud-native, microservices, and event-driven architectures within complex enterprise settings, ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and reliable business-critical platforms.
• Proficiency in AI engineering, including deployment and operationalization of enterprise AI solutions such as semantic search, machine learning, and ethical AI principles.
• Strong background in software and platform engineering, adept with modern development tools, DevSecOps, continuous integration/delivery, automated testing, observability, security-by-design, and operational excellence.
• Proven track record in steering enterprise-wide technology modernization and transformation initiatives, delivering measurable enhancements in platform dependability, security, scalability, and engineering capabilities.
• Excellent communicator and leader skilled in engaging stakeholders, managing multidisciplinary teams and delivery partners, and translating complex business needs into effective technology solutions.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience in designing, deploying, and managing container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenShift, AKS, EKS, or GKE, including automation, governance, and workload management.
• Experience with cloud platform modernization, site reliability engineering, platform engineering, observability tools, and large-scale enterprise automation.
• Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies, coaching geographically distributed teams, and cultivating environments focused on collaboration, innovation, and ongoing improvement.
