Lead Software Engineer - Infrastructure Platforms

Overview

Join our new Technology Line of Business in Dublin to design, build, and manage the infrastructure platforms powering JPMorgan Chase. Collaborate with a small senior team implementing AI-native methods to boost development speed and reduce operational burdens. This role offers the chance to own live production systems, write impactful code, and develop scalable infrastructure patterns across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and manage enterprise-scale infrastructure services from initial specifications through to production deployment and operations.
• Write, review, and maintain high-quality production code ensuring systems are reliable, performant, secure, and cost-effective.
• Address complex production issues promptly, taking full ownership for system operability and understanding.
• Utilize AI-assisted software development lifecycle tools, such as AI-enabled code review, test automation, and incident diagnosis, while ensuring compliance with validation standards.
• Participate in the on-call rotation, serve as an escalation point during incidents, and emphasize operability and observability from system inception.
• Optimize code and systems for scalability, performance, efficiency, and quality.
• Break down ambiguous problems into clear, executable tasks for yourself and AI agents, integrating outcomes into production-grade systems.
• Define clear success metrics for deliverables and measure their impact.
• Collaborate proactively with teammates and stakeholders, contribute to technical decisions, and escalate risks as needed.
• Apply security considerations and risk awareness throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Required Qualifications and Capabilities

• Proven experience writing production code in industry-standard languages such as Python, Go, Java, C++, or Rust.
• Strong familiarity with Unix-like operating systems and fundamental networking concepts.
• Hands-on background building or operating systems in at least one infrastructure domain (cloud, networking, compute, storage, security, or data infrastructure).
• Practical experience configuring and managing infrastructure tooling like Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and databases.
• Deep systems-thinking skills with understanding of interfaces, failure modes, interactions at scale, and contract design.
• Fluency in using AI tools for software engineering tasks, including sound judgment on when AI vs human expertise is appropriate.
• A security-first mindset, assessing and integrating risk considerations from design through deployment.
• Clear and direct communication skills with team members and broader stakeholders.
• Focus on delivering outcomes emphasizing impact, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and work on greenfield projects confidently.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

• Exposure to multiple infrastructure domains or proficiency in several programming languages.
• Experience running large-scale services including responsibility for on-call operations, incident response, and capacity planning.
• Track record of automating processes to reduce operational burden and improve engineering efficiency.
• Ongoing development of AI skills such as prompt engineering and agent orchestration, applying AI to redesign workflows with measurable impact.
• Background in regulated or large enterprise environments.
• Experience working on greenfield engineering initiatives.
• Proven problem-solving ability tackling complex technical challenges independently.
