Role Overview

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer III focused on the application layer of the Guidewire Cloud Platform. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring application reliability, scalability, and performance by combining software engineering, automation, and operational practices in a cloud environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with development teams to diagnose and remedy issues swiftly, limiting customer disruptions.
• Create and sustain automated runbooks for proactive operational management.
• Leverage engineering principles and automation to enhance the cloud operating environment.
• Monitor application performance and reliability across the Guidewire Cloud Platform and implement improvements.
• Employ software engineering skills to optimize system efficiency and reduce manual workload.
• Document incident reports and develop procedural safeguards to mitigate future issues.
• Stay updated with industry best practices and emerging trends in site reliability engineering.
• Promote a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and process refinement.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support service availability during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Practical experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or comparable role focused on enhancing system reliability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities for complex system issues.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to work cross-functionally and clearly document processes.
• Hands-on experience with automation, monitoring tools, and performance enhancement techniques.
• Driven to maximize uptime, scalability, and user experience.
• Software engineering proficiency, particularly in Python, Go, or Java, adhering to best coding principles (SOLID, DRY, KISS) and producing clean, testable code.
• Expertise in implementing Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and managing Error Budgets.
• Familiarity with Application Performance Monitoring (APM) and telemetry tools to maintain service expectations.
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging in distributed cloud infrastructures.
• Knowledge working with CI/CD pipelines in Kubernetes and legacy environments.
• Ability to develop monitors, dashboards, and synthetic transactions using tools such as Datadog.
• Experience managing scalable infrastructure on AWS and Kubernetes using Terraform and cloud-native methods.
• Infrastructure as code skills with configuration management tools including GitOps, Puppet, or Ansible.
• Understanding of cloud networking, security practices, vulnerability management, and automated infrastructure remediation.

Preferred Skills

• Certifications in Site Reliability Engineering and/or AWS.
• Proficiency in SQL, database management, data pipelines, performance tuning, and schema design.
• Experience with integration pipeline tools like TeamCity, Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
• Exposure to big data frameworks such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, or AWS RedShift.
• Knowledge of distributed systems architectures including microservices and event-driven systems.

Additional Information

This position involves mandatory participation in on-call rotations including outside normal business hours, weekends, and holidays to promptly address incidents and maintain service reliability. Candidates must be willing to undertake this responsibility.
