Job description

Role Overview

The Junior Sommelier will be responsible for managing and serving wines and champagnes, engaging with guests about wine selections, and maintaining wine-related inventory and systems. This position involves updating wine lists, conducting tastings, coordinating with vendors, and supporting the overall dining experience with expert wine pairing recommendations.

Primary Duties

  • Open and serve wine and champagne bottles to guests with attention to detail.
  • Answer guests’ inquiries concerning wine origin, vintage, and styles.
  • Maintain and update the wine list and MICROS system regularly.
  • Pair wines thoughtfully with menu dishes to enhance guest experience.
  • Participate in wine tastings and foster relationships with wine suppliers.
  • Request new wine selections and products as needed to refresh the offerings.
  • Design and implement promotional events and incentive programs related to wine.
  • Monitor the wine cellar inventory and ensure proper stocking of wine-related equipment and glassware.
  • Train and educate serving and bar staff on wine knowledge and service techniques.
  • Conduct vintage and BIN number verifications and organize staff wine tastings.
  • Secure alcohol storage areas and handle beverage safety in accordance with all applicable laws.
  • Maintain precise spill reports and adhere to company safety and security protocols.
  • Promote a professional and welcoming environment by following uniform and appearance standards, guest service protocols, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and assist guests with disabilities as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and guests, supporting a collaborative workplace.
  • Perform physical tasks such as standing or walking for extended periods, moving objects up to 50 pounds, and navigating various workspaces safely.
  • Carry out additional reasonable duties as assigned by supervisors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical, trade, or vocational school degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in a similar role.
  • No supervisory experience required.
  • No specific licenses or certifications mandatory.
