General Assistant

About the Role

Join a leading independent co-educational day and boarding school near Street, Somerset, serving approximately 1,300 students daily, providing breakfast, lunch, and supper alongside dynamic hospitality services. This permanent full-time position offers 20 to 40 hours weekly on a 38-week term-time contract, with potential extra hours during school breaks. Work is conducted in a beautiful campus setting amidst the Somerset countryside, supporting weekday and weekend residential activities.

Key Duties

• Assist the team in serving customers, replenishing stock, and maintaining cleanliness standards.
• Set up service areas for daily meal services.
• Handle preparation, setup, serving, clearing, cleaning, and storage of food, beverages, and equipment for special functions.
• Prepare simple food items for sale and service while adhering to hygiene and safety protocols according to established standards.
• Restock supplies during service, anticipate customer needs, and ensure optimal service delivery.
• Manage removal and correct disposal or recycling of waste and rubbish.
• Occasionally work evenings or weekends for events and school functions.
• Maintain company food quality standards and control food wastage.
• Adhere strictly to Food Hygiene, Health & Safety policies, and allergen management procedures.

Candidate Profile

• Previous experience in a busy catering environment is preferred.
• Teamwork skills, attentive listening, ability to work independently, with excellent personal presentation, hygiene, and conduct.
• Preferably hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.
• Adaptable, flexible, trustworthy, honest, and committed to excellent customer service.
• Eagerness to learn new skills and accept some responsibility.
• Capability to manage moderate physical tasks such as lifting, carrying, and pushing.
• Good verbal and written English comprehension.
• Experience in food preparation or customer service environments is advantageous.
