About the Role
Harrison & Hetherington (H&H Group) is the UK’s premier livestock marketing centre seeking a Cook for its bustling on-site café at Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle. The café handles large volumes of breakfast and lunch service (up to 150 meals each) along with continuous refreshments and snacks for customers, visitors, and staff throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook both hot and cold meals efficiently in a fast-moving café setting.
- Ensure kitchen and food preparation areas are maintained to excellent cleanliness standards.
- Collaborate with the Facilities Supervisor to assist in menu planning that aligns with customer demand and budget considerations.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the Facilities Supervisor to optimize purchasing and ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Follow rigorous food safety, health and safety, and food hygiene protocols at all times.
- Report any defective appliances, broken equipment or furniture, and potential safety hazards promptly to the Facilities Manager.
- Assist in café and restaurant operations as needed, including order taking, serving food and beverages, and managing payments.
- Provide support and guidance to fellow team members during busy service periods.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience in meal preparation and cooking within a fast-paced catering environment.
- Strong communication abilities with a customer-oriented and positive attitude.
- Self-motivated, flexible, and proactive team player.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards and food hygiene regulations relevant to catering.
- Attention to detail with accurate completion of kitchen paperwork and record keeping.
- Competent in proper stock storage methods and rotation procedures.
Additional Information
The position offers up to 35 hours per week with some flexibility, including weekend shifts, early morning starts, and occasional long days. A competitive salary will be provided to the appointed candidate.
