Job description
About the Role
We are seeking a collaborative Estimator who excels at prioritizing tasks effectively. In this position, you will be instrumental in developing project cost estimates by carefully analyzing specifications and contract documents to guarantee that quantities and construction methods are both cost-efficient and aligned with project pursuit, schedule, and budgetary constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine proposal specifications, drawings, and participate in pre-bid meetings to establish the scope and content requirements of estimates.
- Integrate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity reports into unit and labor hour estimates.
- Offer technical advice on project and contract risks to the lead estimator who gives final price approval, and ensure the final estimate adheres to the project’s timing and budget objectives.
- Develop discipline-specific estimates by performing detailed quantity takeoffs from engineering drawings, calculating precise material needs.
- Track client addenda and provide guidance to the estimating team on any changes during the estimation phase.
- Support design review processes by evaluating alternatives and recommending optimal solutions based on cost-effectiveness, engineering standards, and material availability.
- Collaborate with the estimating team to organize and execute project hand-off meetings between pursuit and project management teams.
- Research and suggest suitable vendors and subcontractors for scope areas to meet bidding and cost objectives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of two years' experience in construction, cost estimating, or cost control preferred.
- Familiarity with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software at a beginner level.
- Developing abilities in technical writing.
