Engineer Technician

Job Overview

This position involves performing drafting tasks, compiling and organizing engineering and drafting data, designing structures, and recommending design modifications. Additional responsibilities include surveying, and updating and maintaining GIS/GeoBase data in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) at Al Udeid Air Base, Doha, Qatar.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and print custom maps using Defense Area Printing Service (DAPS) or other government systems as requested, saving outputs to designated government storage solutions.
• Conduct engineering surveys for facility projects including construction layout, utility location, and disaster response (topographical, boundary, construction, and route surveys).
• Perform field land surveys to acquire geospatial data reflecting built and natural infrastructure for updating facility Mission Data Sets (MDSs).
• Create and maintain detailed technical drawings, geospatial datasets, and cartographic materials.
• Provide drafting and engineering assistance to customers, engineers, and craftsmen on various projects and tasks.
• Maintain a well-organized repository of technical reference materials, plans, and specifications accessible to engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
• Compile project documents such as cost estimates, plans, specifications, statements of work, bills of materials, schedules, and submittal registers in accordance with government-provided materials.
• Utilize GeoBase as the official Air Force GIS program by adhering to related policies and standards for installation geospatial information.
• Ensure compliance with GeoBase Common Installation Picture (CIP), MDS/MDL control documents, Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE), data quality, and reporting standards.
• Provide updated CIP maps annually or after infrastructure changes, in both electronic and printed forms with requested measurements.
• Document and maintain spatially accurate, georeferenced digital facility floor plans following Drawing of Record or Space Use Data Set guidance, employing industry-standard methods like 360-degree scans and photography.
• Conduct various airfield and construction surveys, including topographic and boundary surveys, using Government-provided GPS, Range Finders, and Total Stations.
• Update and maintain installation spatial data sets to represent accurate ground conditions as directed.
• Update GIS data using ESRI ArcGIS Pro or AutoCAD software per customer directives.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate and promptly update spatial attribute data.
• Maintain as-built drawings for facilities in designated government databases.
• Perform additional surveying, drafting, and GIS duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A minimum of three years' experience in surveying and drafting.
• At least one year of experience with current AutoCAD and GIS software versions within the last three years.
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining technical drawings, geospatial data, and maps.
• Familiarity with surveying tools and techniques, including differential leveling, Engineering Data Management/Data Collectors, and GPS equipment (preferably Trimble) and associated software.
• Capability to generate or update Space Use Data Sets.
• Preference for candidates with experience on US Government and military domestic/international projects.
• Knowledge of project design review principles, GIS/GeoBase updates, surveying services, and administrative processes.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD 2025 or newer to produce accurate facility and infrastructure plans for project requirements.
• Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Competent in Microsoft Office and Project software.
• Ability to work collaboratively and lead within a diverse, dynamic team.
• Excellent problem-solving capabilities and sound judgment.
• Must be a US Navy veteran eligible to occupy this role.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Security Clearance (US citizenship required).
• Possess a valid state or international driver's license and passport.
• Prior overseas government contracting work is preferred.
