EHS Engineer

Role Overview

The EHS Engineer is responsible for comprehensive management and implementation of Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols at construction sites, ensuring compliance with international standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain all essential EHS documentation, including EHS plans, emergency response plans, and risk assessments.
• Participate actively in EHS meetings involving clients and project teams to discuss safety concerns and progress.
• Report any EHS issues promptly to the Head Office for timely resolution.
• Deliver EHS induction training sessions to newly onboarded workers, ensuring awareness of safety procedures.
• Conduct daily inspections within assigned zones to monitor and enforce EHS compliance.
• Guarantee that Engineers and Supervisors obtain necessary safe work permits from Clients and Main Contractors before commencement of tasks.
• Perform site-wide risk assessments; alert Site Engineers and Clients/Main Contractors about identified high-risk areas.
• Oversee proper weekly delivery of toolbox talks by Engineers to maintain and enhance EHS awareness among workers.
• Ensure all personnel use required personal protective equipment, such as helmets, EHS shoes, and coveralls.
• Verify the safety and good condition of equipment like ladders and scaffolding before use.
• Promote health and hygiene standards by ensuring availability of drinking water, rest areas, adequate lighting, and ventilation for workers.
• Maintain exemplary housekeeping on the project site to prevent incidents or accidents.
• Conduct Job EHS Analysis for high-risk activities to reduce hazardous conditions effectively.
• Encourage and motivate both workers and engineers to adhere to and improve EHS practices consistently.
• Investigate incidents or accidents alongside engineers, communicating findings and precautions to all concerned parties.
• Administer immediate first aid or arrange medical assistance in the event of worker injuries.
• Keep detailed records of all EHS activities and documentation for audit and reporting purposes.
• Establish, monitor, appraise, and coordinate enhancements to the integrated health, safety, and environment management system aligned with ISO-45001:2018, ISO14001:2015, and ISO 9001 standards.
• Facilitate internal audits and update procedural manuals based on these standards.
• Conduct EHS training programs for engineers and workers both onsite and in HR-led sessions.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments on critical tasks, ensuring that method statements incorporate these findings.
• Prepare Environment Management Plans and Emergency Preparedness Plans, including conducting emergency drills.
• Coordinate external EHS audits and third-party equipment inspections.
• Implement and manage the Work Permit System to ensure controlled task execution.
• Support occupational health and welfare initiatives for project personnel.
• Draft EHS conditions of contract for subcontractors to ensure their compliance.
• Exercise authority to halt work upon observing unsafe practices and promote a proactive safety culture emphasizing commitment to action.
• Perform monthly project Risk Management Audits and quarterly system audits to assess and improve EHS performance.
• Prepare and deliver EHS performance reports to project and Integrated Contractor leadership for informed decision-making.
