Responsibilities

• Review and refine daily news articles for accuracy, clarity, coherence, and readability.
• Correct factual errors, grammar, spelling, and align content with house style standards.
• Create compelling, precise headlines for a specialist audience.
• Apply adept news judgment to highlight critical breaking stories and prioritize content accordingly.
• Identify potential editorial, legal, or ethical issues promptly and escalate as necessary.
• Provide constructive editorial feedback to journalists to maintain high standards.
• Assist in developing and maintaining style guidelines used newsroom-wide.
• Edit and publish pieces contributed by external legal professionals and liaise with contributors and legal teams.
• Participate in editorial planning and collaborate with both local and international colleagues.
• Incorporate approved tools including generative AI while ensuring editorial oversight remains human-centered.

Candidate Profile

• Possess 2 to 6 years of copy editing experience in professional or newsroom settings.
• Demonstrated ability to edit news copy efficiently under tight deadlines.
• Exceptional command of grammar, spelling, writing style, and headline creation.
• Strong attention to detail with an ability to detect factual inconsistencies.
• Sound editorial judgment and independence in decision making.
• Effective at managing multiple competing deadlines with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to provide thoughtful, constructive feedback to reporting staff.
• Hold a relevant tertiary degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Prior journalism or reporting background with transition to editing preferred; familiarity with legal, financial, or business news is advantageous though training is provided.
