Role Summary

The Director of Software Engineering spearheads major project initiatives to deliver premium software solutions efficiently while maintaining cost-effectiveness. The role involves analyzing changing business demands and recommending technical alternatives aligned with those needs. Leading a team to meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ensuring alignment with organizational and enterprise goals are key responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the definition, development, and delivery of enterprise-wide projects that have broad influence and long-term business impact.
• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to scope opportunities, estimate costs, assess benefits and risks, and build business cases aligned with Mastercard's objectives.
• Drive innovation by exploring alternative solutions, conducting scenario planning, and presenting strategic insights to senior management and stakeholders to facilitate decision making.
• Conduct Proofs of Concept to evaluate technologies suitable for organizational needs and advise senior leadership on technical direction and technology selection.
• Create strategic technology roadmaps aligned with departmental and long-term business goals.
• Coach and mentor team members, promote knowledge exchange through educational sessions on emerging technologies and methodologies.
• Define and enhance processes and tools corresponding to evolving organizational requirements, managing project scope and timelines effectively.
• Oversee integration designs for external partnerships, ensuring adherence to security policies and diligent technology evaluations.
• Guide teams to use appropriate development processes and documentation standards, continually refining these standards to meet department requirements.

Educational and Professional Background

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or comparable experience.
• Deep understanding of software engineering principles and methodologies.
• Experience in project leadership within matrix organizations and working with geographically dispersed teams.
• Collaborative experience with legal and compliance teams for safeguarding contracts and interests.
• Skilled in constructing service-level agreements with clients and third parties.
• Proficient with service-oriented architecture and e-commerce platform integrations.
• Knowledge of security patterns, including experience with SAML and OAuth tokens integration.
• Background developing and managing multi-language, multi-currency global systems.
• Experience integrating enterprise web services with platforms like Layer 7 and DataPower.
• Expertise building loosely coupled systems through technologies such as message queues and NoSQL databases.
• Proven track record deploying complex projects using agile methodologies.

• Technical expertise in object-oriented system design, unit testing with mocking frameworks, and programming languages including Java, JavaScript, and C#.
• Database design and scripting experience for Oracle and SQL Server.
• Competence in using cloud platforms such as AWS and Microsoft Azure for design and development.
• Experience designing enterprise web services with SOAP and REST frameworks.
• Ability to create integration designs and plans using diagramming tools such as Visio.
• Development of batch processing systems.

Additional Information

• Up to 10-20% travel may be required to support third-party integration activities and coordination with a global workforce.
