Job description
About the Role
Mastercard operates across more than 200 countries and territories, powering economies while enabling people and businesses to thrive. We offer a comprehensive suite of digital payment options that prioritize security, simplicity, intelligence, and accessibility. Our innovation, technology, partnerships, and networks deliver distinct products and services to help governments, businesses, and individuals achieve their potential.
The Mastercard Foundry R&D team is seeking a Senior AI Product Builder to join our Agentic AI Engineering team. This role requires a hands-on professional passionate about the design, feel, and operational excellence of products incorporating Generative and Agentic AI. You'll transform product concepts into functional, high-quality user experiences, conduct real user testing, and shepherd these solutions toward production readiness. Additionally, you will help develop the supporting infrastructure, tooling, and reusable components to facilitate AI experimentation and scaling across Mastercard.
Key Responsibilities
- Full ownership of end-to-end user experience within a defined product scope, including user flows, interaction design, visual fidelity, and maintaining a working prototype.
- Design and develop AI-powered applications, agentic workflows, and tools for developers, guiding projects from idea to validation.
- Create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes leveraging modern front-end frameworks and AI-assisted development tools, ensuring readiness for testing and hand-off.
- Carefully address all user interaction details such as states, transitions, error handling, loading indicators, responsiveness, and accessibility—including AI-specific considerations like streaming, latency, handling uncertainty, and user experience when AI agents err.
- Utilize Mastercard’s design system to build accessible, coherent experiences and collaborate with customer experience teams to innovate when the design system lacks needed patterns.
- Guide AI agents through design exploration, prototyping, testing, and documentation by providing context and evaluation criteria to ensure reliable output.
- Assess models, frameworks, and tools on quality, cost, latency, reliability, and maintainability, making informed trade-offs.
- Participate in and lead user testing sessions, analyze findings, and recommend actionable changes.
- Develop reusable components, workflows, services, and AI skills for Foundry's shared catalog to enable other teams to build on proven solutions.
- Enhance developer experience through automation, AI-assisted workflows, and platform-focused thinking.
- Collaborate across product management, customer experience, engineering, and business stakeholders to convert ideas into operational solutions and communicate clearly about decisions, risks, and results.
- Share knowledge, prototypes, and best practices organization-wide.
Candidate Profile
- Strong combination of product insight, interaction design expertise, and implementation skills.
- Proven experience leading digital products from an initial uncertain opportunity to a validated product that delivers measurable customer or business outcomes.
- Solid front-end development skills with independent capability to build realistic prototypes using modern web technologies such as JavaScript or TypeScript with React or equivalent frameworks.
- Regular use and understanding of AI coding tools or agents, including how context, constraints, tooling, and evaluation impact output quality.
- Product-focused mindset that prioritizes identifying critical customer problems, setting priorities, defining success metrics, and declining distractions that do not support outcomes.
- Good understanding of interaction design principles, design systems, content structuring, responsive behavior, and accessibility standards to create seamless experiences and know when to involve specialists.
- Technical acumen to evaluate feasibility and discuss APIs, data flows, system constraints, testing, and delivery trade-offs with engineering and architecture teams.
- Comfortable conducting user testing on incomplete work, learning from feedback, and iterating rapidly.
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams across product, CX, engineering, architecture, security, quality assurance, and operations.
- Skilled at communicating complex product and technical decisions clearly to both senior leadership and delivery teams.
- Proficient in bringing order to ambiguity, exercising sound judgment, and being accountable for outcomes.
- Holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Design, Product Management, or a related field, or possesses equivalent practical experience.
Additional Information
Applicants are encouraged to showcase their work by sharing products, prototypes, side projects, or any examples where they have designed and built experiences independently, with preference for those involving large language models or AI agents.
We will discuss the problems solved, design choices, user interaction evolutions, details attended to such as motion and accessibility, personal contributions versus team efforts, and integration of AI tools during interviews.
Preferred Background
- Experience in developing AI-enabled or agentic products and defining methods for evaluating models or agent behavior.
- Experience in regulated domains such as payments, commerce, financial services, or similar industries.
Corporate Security Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to Mastercard’s security policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of accessed information.
- Report any suspected information security breaches promptly.
- Complete all mandatory security training as per company guidelines.
