About the Role

We are looking for a Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer with robust software engineering skills to join our Dublin team. This full-time, hybrid role involves designing, optimizing, and scaling eBay's database infrastructure while supporting backend development and automation tool creation. The ideal candidate bridges data infrastructure know-how with software development to build scalable, reliable services.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and deploy scalable, fault-tolerant PostgreSQL solutions incorporating replication, partitioning, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Enhance query execution efficiency through advanced indexing and database parameter tuning aligned with PostgreSQL best practices.
• Create automated tools and services for database provisioning, monitoring, and deployment processes.
• Enforce rigorous database security protocols including role-based access control and encryption mechanisms.
• Collaborate with software development, DevOps, and analytics teams to embed PostgreSQL capabilities within applications and data pipelines.
• Provide mentorship to engineering peers and establish operational standards for schema design, performance tuning, and database management.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years hands-on experience managing PostgreSQL databases in large-scale production environments.
• Strong coding skills in C/C++, Python, Go, or Java, particularly for building automation and backend tools.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and PL/pgSQL plus a comprehensive understanding of PostgreSQL internals and performance optimization.
• Expertise with Linux/Unix systems, Kubernetes orchestration, and container technologies like Docker.
• Solid experience implementing replication, backup, migration strategies including cross-platform transitions such as Oracle to PostgreSQL.
• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Work Model and Location

This position requires a hybrid work model with a minimum of three days per week onsite at the Dublin office.
