Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive Data Engineer to join our Data & Analytics team based in Sydney. Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating data ingestion pipelines, databases, and curated datasets on which the business relies. This build-and-run role involves creating new data workflows, ensuring smooth daily operations, and troubleshooting data issues as they arise. You will work with AI-first methodologies, leveraging AI-assisted tools to enhance delivery, support AI team pipelines, and collaborate closely with external data and AI partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain data ingestion pipelines for both structured and unstructured data, ensuring reliable and scalable data availability.
  • Develop and support components of the data platform including Snowflake, databases, and auxiliary tools according to established standards and architecture.
  • Monitor data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency; promptly resolve issues or escalate as necessary.
  • Contribute to analytic engineering efforts by creating well-modeled, curated datasets supporting reporting and data products.
  • Build data foundations for AI applications, including semantic layers and unstructured data pipelines.
  • Adhere to prescribed engineering standards and practices, including code reviews and technical guidelines.
  • Utilize AI-driven engineering and DataOps automation to accelerate both delivery and operational processes while advancing technical skills.

Candidate Profile

  • 4 to 5 years of experience in data engineering with a focus on production-grade pipelines and data models.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python coupled with experience using cloud data warehouse technologies like Snowflake or equivalents.
  • Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines on cloud platforms and familiarity with modern analytics engineering tools such as dbt.
  • Understanding of engineering data for AI and generative AI consumption is highly desirable.
  • A degree in a technical discipline or equivalent practical experience.
