Platform Engineer - GraphQL/API

This position is based in Dublin, Ireland, within eBay's Application Platform – Frameworks Team. As a Platform Engineer focusing on API and GraphQL technologies, you will play a key role in building and enhancing our GraphQL Federation and API platforms. Your contributions will ensure scalable, reliable, and user-friendly APIs that support eBay's partners, sellers, and internal teams globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop highly available, scalable services including GraphQL gateways and federated schemas.
• Design, build, and maintain GraphQL platform infrastructure to empower teams to expose and consume data efficiently.
• Manage production systems end-to-end by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving API and notification issues.
• Enhance GraphQL performance and stability through query registration, optimization, caching mechanisms, and observability tools.
• Ensure platform security through regular updates, dependency management, and vulnerability remediation.
• Automate operational workflows to minimize manual effort and improve system reliability.
• Develop clean, maintainable Java code using Spring Boot following solid design principles.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver scalable and developer-friendly APIs.

Qualifications and Skills

• At least 3 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficient in Java fundamentals, including object-oriented programming, data structures, and Spring Boot framework.
• Understanding of GraphQL concepts such as schema federation, stitching, query optimization, and caching strategies.
• Experience designing APIs, both GraphQL and RESTful services.
• Familiarity with continuous integration and delivery tools like Maven and Jenkins.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud-native deployment methodologies.
• Strong emphasis on building reliable, scalable platforms with excellent developer experience.
• Demonstrate curiosity, ownership, and enthusiasm for developing platform capabilities impacting large-scale organizations.
• Experience building or managing GraphQL APIs—schema design, resolvers, federation or gateway frameworks—is advantageous.
