Role Overview

As a Data Engineer at ACC, your role will be to design, implement, and enhance scalable data pipelines and products that foster trusted, secure, and top-quality data across the enterprise platforms. You will operate within both operational and analytical domains, supporting frontline services, enterprise decision processes, and innovative projects such as AI and advanced analytics. This position offers a chance to contribute meaningfully toward enhanced outcomes for New Zealanders and their safety across varied environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and deliver up-to-date data pipelines, products, and solutions.
  • Enable analytics, AI, and strategic decision-making through reliable data.
  • Maintain and continuously improve data quality, governance, and security.

Candidate Profile

  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining data pipelines, data models, and data products.
  • Proficient in scripting, data transformation, orchestration, testing, monitoring, and automation.
  • Experienced in handling complex, sensitive data from multiple sources.
  • Knowledgeable in data quality standards, metadata management, lineage tracking, privacy, security, and access controls.
  • Familiar with modern cloud data platforms, continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) methodologies, and DataOps or DevOps paradigms.
  • Capable of translating business needs into feasible technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Possess relevant tertiary qualifications in data engineering, computer science, software engineering, mathematics or equivalent practical expertise.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and principles of Māori Data Sovereignty.
  • Demonstrates a continuous improvement approach with dedication to delivering trustworthy and high-caliber results.

Additional Information and Benefits

The position is permanent based preferably in Wellington with two vacancies available.
The salary range offered is between NZD 101,287 and NZD 131,077, depending on experience.
ACC provides a competitive benefits package inclusive of a market-leading superannuation contribution of 9%, where employees have no mandatory contribution, plus optional life and income protection insurance.
