Role Overview
This Wellington-based permanent, full-time position is within the Fraud Analytics team, tasked with preventing external fraud and misuse through intelligence-led strategies. The team develops innovative analytical solutions to transform complex data into actionable intelligence, facilitating proactive fraud detection and targeted investigations. As a Fraud Data Scientist, you will create advanced analytical models and automated monitoring tools using data science, AI, and machine learning techniques to identify high-risk behaviours and support effective fraud interventions. Collaboration with Fraud Prevention and Investigation teams and other stakeholders is key to convert complex challenges into practical insights and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop sophisticated data models and intelligence products to detect and prevent fraud and misuse.
- Utilize data science methodologies including machine learning and AI to analyze complex and multi-source datasets.
- Work closely with various teams and stakeholders to translate analytical findings into actionable solutions.
- Promote a culture of integrity, innovation, and partnership within the organisation.
- Communicate insights effectively to a diverse range of audiences.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver with a passion for identifying trends and applying new technologies in fraud prevention. A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is required, and recent graduates are encouraged to apply by providing their latest academic transcripts. Technical proficiency in Python, R, SQL, Power BI, and cloud analytics is essential, alongside an interest or experience in machine learning, AI, and statistical modelling. Understanding of fraud detection models and risk indicators is important. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, cultural competence with respect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, and a mindset geared towards innovation are highly valued.

- Salary range: $77,502 to $90,418 NZD annually, plus 9% employer superannuation contribution.
