Data Center Facilities Manager

About the Role

The DataCenter Service / Datacenter Cloud System (DCS) team is part of ByteDance's global technology division, supporting rapid company expansion by developing and managing hyperscale data centers. Their responsibilities include overseeing the entire server fleet lifecycle, delivering cloud infrastructure solutions, and maintaining scalable, reliable infrastructure services.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in planning and constructing CoLocation Data Center infrastructure projects, track progress, manage communications, identify operational risks, conduct testing, acceptance, and handover of infrastructure to ensure project success.
• Manage daily operations of CoLocation Data Center infrastructure, ensuring stability, optimizing performance, and enhancing data center management processes.
• Lead end-to-end change management for all high-risk data center maintenance tasks to maintain uninterrupted facility operations.
• Oversee data center operation moderation, including event reporting, fault tracking, and resolution to improve service quality.
• Maintain strong collaborative relationships with vendors, internal teams, and stakeholders to facilitate seamless facility delivery.
• Perform audits and review maintenance programs of CoLocation Data Center providers regularly, recommending improvements for facility maintenance effectiveness.
• Serve as a subject matter expert supporting the DC Operations team by managing design constraints and risks.
• Supervise construction teams during Data Hall fit-outs, coordinating IT services installation, power system deployment, and cooling infrastructure setup.
• Be available beyond normal working hours to respond to communications and coordinate urgent high-priority facility incidents affecting business operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Diploma or professional certification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related facility engineering field.
• At least 5 years of experience in data center facility operations.
• Proven expertise in implementing data center power redundancy designs such as 2N and N+1 distributed architectures in live environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cooling redundancy approaches and concurrent maintainability requirements including N+1 and N+2 designs.
• Practical experience with critical data center mechanical and electrical systems including generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, UPS, and electrical sub-distribution systems.
• Strong communication skills with exceptional attention to detail for facility documentation and coordinating with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Capability to prioritize multiple complex facility workflows in dynamic, fast-moving data center settings.
• Familiarity with TIA-942 and ASHRAE standards for calculating data center power and cooling capacities.
• Experience managing vendor contracts, capital facility projects, or operational uptime programs.
• Skill in risk assessment and making informed decisions to resolve critical facility issues while maintaining business continuity.
