Control Room Operator

Job Overview

The Control Room Operator is responsible for overseeing and managing plant operational parameters, ensuring smooth coordination among operators, and maintaining safety and quality standards within the plant environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Adhere strictly to safety regulations and be knowledgeable about fire safety equipment in the assigned area.
• Understand plant P&IDs, standard operating procedures, work instructions, control logics, emergency protocols, and other relevant documentation.
• Continuously monitor operational parameters, logging readings periodically and summarizing shift activities/events comprehensively.
• Follow directives from the Shift Charge Engineer and Shift Supervisor and communicate effectively with fellow operators on all operational matters.
• Stay vigilant and respond promptly to abnormal or emergency operating conditions.
• Coordinate Lock Out & Tag Out procedures for maintenance isolation following approved Permit To Work protocols, and restore equipment to normal operation when authorized.
• Inspect the unit and auxiliary equipment throughout the shift, ensuring parameters remain within acceptable limits, and report any irregularities to supervisory staff.
• Conduct scheduled protection tests under supervision, maintain test documentation, and execute equipment changeovers per established schedules.
• Initiate work requests or defect reports for malfunctioning equipment and monitor their resolution.
• Support training and onboarding of new operators.
• Report near misses and apply recommended risk mitigation measures.
• Log deviations related to Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
• Ensure proper waste management and disposal practices.
• Perform any additional duties assigned as needed.

Candidate Qualifications

• Educational background: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar control room operator role.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management system fundamentals.
• Familiarity with waste identification, classification, and disposal procedures.
• Knowledgeable about emission monitoring processes.
• Awareness of environmental and health implications of plant chemicals.
• Proficiency with firefighting equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Basic first aid skills and safety equipment knowledge.
• Experience with power and water plant operations.
• Strong interpersonal communication and analytical skills.
• Competency in hazard risk assessment and aspect impact analysis.
• Basic computer literacy.

Additional Qualifications

Familiarity or working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards is advantageous.
