Job description
Role Overview
We seek certified Cable Jointers to join our expanding Southern Electric Power Distribution team across various locations including New Forest, Yeovil, Poole, Salisbury, West London, Slough, Reading, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke, Aldershot, Petersfield, Swindon, Melksham, and Oxford. This full-time, permanent position offers a base salary between £36,139 and £43,188, supplemented with overtime and standby earnings for an approximate total on-target earnings of £50,000.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform jointing, cabling, and excavation tasks on both High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) networks, working on planned schedules as well as urgent responses.
- Prioritize safety for yourself and colleagues, embodying and promoting a strong safety culture in all duties.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, including adverse weather conditions, to maintain continuous electricity supply and excellent customer service.
- Work outdoors across all weather scenarios, including out-of-hours standby shifts and quick mobilization during storm events.
- Represent SSE Power Distribution professionally in all customer interactions.
Candidate Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience as a cable jointer, preferably with DNO industry involvement in the UK or abroad.
- Possession of recognized cable jointing qualifications for LV, HV, 11kV, or 33kV systems from accredited institutions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of HV and LV electrical systems and equipment.
- Willingness to undertake out-of-hours standby duties and respond quickly to unforeseen work requirements.
- Strong commitment to safety, excellent communication skills to translate technical information effectively, and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Experience in excavation for joint holes using hand tools or mini excavators; training is available as needed.
- Valid full UK driving license is essential.
