Job description

Role Overview

We are seeking skilled Cable Jointers to join our Southern Electric Power Distribution team. This is a full-time, permanent onsite position with various base locations including New Forest, Yeovil, Poole, Salisbury, West London, Slough, Reading, Portsmouth, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke, Aldershot, Petersfield, Swindon, Melksham, and Oxford.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected total earning potential is approximately £50,000 OTE, with a base salary ranging from £36,139 to £43,188 plus overtime and standby payments. Key Responsibilities

  • Executing jointing, cabling, and excavation on high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) networks, both in pre-planned projects and rapid response situations.
  • Maintaining high safety standards for yourself and colleagues and promoting a strong safety culture throughout all operations.
  • Responding promptly to emergency scenarios, including storm work, often outside of normal working hours and participating in standby duties with short notice.
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring excellent customer service as a representative of SSE Power Distribution.

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience as a cable jointer, with DNO electrical qualifications applicable to LV, HV, 11kV, or 33kV networks from a recognized institution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in both HV and LV electrical systems, specifically on DNO networks.
  • Flexibility to undertake out-of-hours standby assignments and rapid deployment during severe weather conditions.
  • Strong commitment to safety, effective communication skills capable of technical explanation, enthusiasm, adaptability, and capacity to prioritize shifting project needs.
  • Experience in excavation work for joint holes using hand tools or mini excavators; training can be provided if necessary.
  • Must have a full UK driving license.
