Job description
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Class 5 licensed driver to join our Silverdale team in a specialized bitumen tanker driver role. This position involves hands-on operation of heavy vehicles transporting bitumen products across New Zealand's North Island.
This is a fixed-term contract role commencing on 1 September 2026 through 25 March 2027, with a possibility of extension based on workload demands.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate an 8x4 Hino 700 tractor unit paired with an 18-speed Road Ranger gearbox and a 4-axle quad semi bitumen tanker (48 tonne GCM) to transport bitumen products.
- Manage tanker heating, pumping, and transfer systems to ensure safe and accurate handling of bitumen.
- Perform pre-start vehicle checks, system calibrations, and daily inspections to maintain operational safety.
- Execute deliveries efficiently in compliance with safety and legal standards.
- Maintain precise logbooks, delivery documentation, and records for each job.
- Collaborate closely with site teams to coordinate timing and meet on-site requirements effectively.
Candidate Requirements
- Holds a Class 5 driving licence; Dangerous Goods endorsement is preferred (assistance available to obtain this).
- Proven experience operating both Road Ranger and automatic transmission heavy vehicles.
- Minimum of two years' experience in line haul or comparable heavy transport roles.
- Experience with bulk liquid or dynamic load transport is an advantage.
- Familiarity with handling hazardous or temperature-controlled cargo is beneficial.
- Competent in using smartphones and tablets for electronic reporting, job tracking, and logbook entries.
- Strong knowledge of transport safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Ability to work independently with strong time management skills.
- Willingness to accommodate occasional weekend and overnight shifts.
