Job description

Job Overview

The Environmental Driver will perform various environmental operation duties, either independently or as part of a team, such as general gardening, street sweeping, and specialized horticultural tasks. These tasks take place in diverse locations including public parks, playing fields, cemeteries, landscaped areas, open spaces, roads, amenity areas, and housing estates.

Location and Employment Details

This is a full-time, permanent position based at Hazlehead Nursery in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Key Requirements

  • Possession of a full Class B UK driving license is mandatory.
  • The candidate should be capable of operating a variety of vehicles, such as 3.5-tonne tipper trucks, ride-on grass cutting machines, and small mechanical sweepers.
  • Experience and knowledge of environmental services teams and operational practices are essential.
  • Willingness to utilize the Council's digital systems, particularly CoreHr for HR-related tasks.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple workload demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while recognizing when to escalate issues to the line manager.

Additional Information

  • The role requires Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) membership. From 1 April 2023, candidates must cover the cost of PVG membership if the full-time equivalent salary is £30,000 or more. However, the Council initially covers the cost (£18 for existing members, £59 for new ones) and deducts it from the first full month’s salary.
