BIM/GIS Engineer

Overview

The BIM/GIS Engineer will play a crucial role in implementing and managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) during the construction supervision phase of large-scale development projects. This position ensures the accuracy of digital models and geospatial data, supports multidisciplinary collaboration, monitors information requirements, and guarantees adherence to BIM and GIS protocols.

Role Responsibilities

• Review architectural, structural, MEP, and infrastructure BIM models for completeness, precision, and compliance.
• Assist with coordination across disciplines by identifying clashes and constructability challenges.
• Maintain and update federated BIM models during the construction period.
• Confirm that authorized design changes and onsite modifications are integrated into the BIM models.
• Engage in BIM coordination meetings and contribute to solving technical issues.
• Manage GIS databases containing project spatial data, utility information, and site details.
• Process, validate, and update geospatial data from surveys and site investigations.
• Create maps, perform spatial analyses, and generate GIS reports to aid construction oversight and decision-making.
• Ensure GIS datasets meet project standards and information management criteria.
• Facilitate the integration of GIS data with BIM models and other digital project platforms.
• Support information management within the Common Data Environment (CDE), overseeing document workflows and timely BIM/GIS deliverable submissions.
• Maintain project data structures, naming conventions, and digital records aligned with project standards.
• Coordinate digital information exchange between consultants, contractors, and supervision teams.
• Ensure digital project information remains accurate, accessible, and controlled.
• Confirm BIM and GIS deliverables meet project specifications, contracts, and standards.
• Conduct regular assessments of model quality, data integrity, and accuracy.
• Support BIM and GIS audits to ensure compliance with procedures and client requirements.
• Monitor resolution of issues from model reviews and coordination sessions and assist in implementing corrective actions.
• Provide site supervision teams with essential BIM and GIS information for construction monitoring.
• Help verify construction progress relative to digital models and project data.
• Coordinate with engineers and inspectors to update site changes in BIM and GIS platforms.
• Support digital visualization, progress tracking, and reporting throughout project execution.
• Assist in compiling accurate as-built documentation for project completion and handover.
• Collaborate with clients, consultants, contractors, surveyors, and project teams on BIM and GIS topics.
• Participate in technical coordination meetings and update stakeholders on digital delivery.
• Support resolution of coordination challenges affecting project information and model quality.
• Guide project teams in utilizing BIM and GIS tools for enhanced collaboration and project outcomes.
• Provide technical advice on digital engineering requirements.
• Prepare weekly and monthly reports detailing BIM coordination, GIS activities, and compliance.
• Maintain comprehensive records of model reviews, clash detection, GIS updates, and coordination efforts.
• Review contractor BIM and GIS submissions for compliance.
• Track digital engineering performance indicators and report findings to management.
• Ensure that project digital records and documentation are properly archived and maintained.

Qualifications and Experience

• A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Geomatics, GIS, Surveying, Construction Management, or similar field is required.
• Professional certifications in BIM, GIS, or Digital Engineering are preferred.
• Certifications in Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, ArcGIS, or comparable software are highly valued.
• Additional training in BIM coordination, GIS usage, and information management systems will be advantageous.
• Membership in relevant professional organizations related to engineering, BIM, or GIS is desirable.
• Between 7 to 10 years of professional experience in BIM, GIS, digital engineering, or information management is essential.
• At least 5 years working on large construction, engineering consultancy, or site supervision projects is required.
• Experience with large-scale developments such as buildings, convention centers, hotels, resorts, and mixed-use sites is important.
• Strong background in BIM coordination, model review, clash detection, and GIS data management is expected.
• Prior experience working in the GCC region, preferably Saudi Arabia, is highly beneficial.

Technical Skills

• Solid understanding of BIM workflows, information management, and GIS applications.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, BIM 360, Autodesk Construction Cloud, ArcGIS, and related software.
• Experience conducting clash detection, model federation, digital coordination, and managing construction information.
• Knowledge of GIS databases, spatial analysis, geospatial mapping, and integrating survey data.
• Competency in Microsoft Office and digital collaboration platforms.
