Job description
Role Overview
The Corrosion Engineer will focus on the innovation and development of corrosion-resistant piping products intended for sectors such as oil and gas (including OCTG and line pipe), geothermal energy, hydrogen transport, and carbon capture. This position requires evaluating materials' performance under corrosive environments, designing anti-corrosion systems, and refining product capabilities while working closely with cross-functional teams to boost efficiency and sustainability.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create and enhance corrosion-resistant technologies specific to OCTG and line pipe applications.
- Work jointly with Metallurgy engineers to formulate steel alloys suited to industries like oil and gas, geothermal, hydrogen transport, and carbon capture.
- Assess materials’ corrosion resistance through laboratory testing aligned with standards such as Natro 175 and ISO16165.
- Supervise testing procedures to guarantee alignment with industry guidelines and regulatory mandates.
- Manage production operations involving clean steel manufacturing for sour and corrosion-sensitive applications, ensuring they meet design and quality benchmarks.
- Collaborate with industry specialists to incorporate technological advancements into alloy design.
- Lead projects adopting cutting-edge technologies to address emerging corrosion challenges.
- Partner with technology, quality assurance, and operations departments to fine-tune product performance and satisfy design goals.
- Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety protocols in line with international standards.
- Support engineering teams by integrating effective corrosion control strategies into product designs.
- Generate comprehensive evaluations, reports, and suggestions based on corrosion testing outcomes.
- Conduct educational sessions on corrosion methodologies and best practices for relevant personnel.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
- Over 10 years of professional experience in corrosion engineering, materials selection, or failure analysis within industrial contexts such as oil and gas, energy production, or manufacturing.
Technical Skills
- Extensive understanding of corrosion processes, prevention strategies, and material behavior in diverse environments.
- Competent in the use of corrosion monitoring instruments like electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and ultrasonic thickness gauges.
- Knowledgeable of corrosion and material standards including NACE, ASTM, ISO, and related codes.
- Proficiency with corrosion modeling software and general engineering software tools.
- Demonstrated analytical thinking and effective problem-solving capabilities.
