Principal Urban Planner

Overview

We are looking for a seasoned Principal Urban Planner to spearhead complex urban development initiatives throughout Dubai and the UAE. This leadership position requires offering strategic planning insights, overseeing cross-disciplinary teams, engaging with governmental bodies and other stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and sustainability goals. The successful candidate will be influential in developing master plans, urban policies, and transformative projects aimed at improving the urban environment and supporting sustainable expansion.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead creation and execution of master plans, regional frameworks, strategic urban development plans, and design strategies.
• Supervise diverse teams including planners, designers, architects, engineers, and consultants.
• Provide technical guidance and ensure quality control throughout project lifecycles.
• Innovate planning solutions that harmonize economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social needs.
• Maintain communication with government regulators, developers, and key stakeholders.
• Manage land use planning, zoning assessments, transportation integration, and infrastructure coordination.
• Compile and assess planning documents such as reports, feasibility analyses, submissions, and policies.
• Facilitate stakeholder consultations, workshops, and public engagement efforts.
• Supervise project timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and deliverables to successful completion.
• Contribute to business development by engaging clients, preparing proposals, and delivering presentations.
• Mentor junior planners and personnel in project teams.
• Ensure alignment with local planning laws, municipal standards, and global best practices.
• Champion sustainability, resilience, smart city concepts, and transit-oriented development in planning applications.

Professional Profile

• Possess a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or related field; a Master's degree preferred.
• Have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in urban and master planning.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing large-scale urban, mixed-use, infrastructure, and master planning projects.
• Sound understanding of UAE planning systems, regulations, and approval procedures.
• Experienced in managing multidisciplinary teams and collaborating with public and private sector stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of land use planning, urban policy creation, sustainability, and smart city initiatives.
• Excellent skills in report writing, presentations, and communication.
• Experience in client relationship management and business development.
• Proficient with GIS software, planning analysis tools, and industry-standard planning software.
• Membership in recognized planning bodies like RTPI, APA, or PIA is advantageous.
• Capable of handling multiple projects in a dynamic consultancy environment.
