About the Role
As a Night Operations Assistant Store Manager (ASM) at The Home Depot Canada, you will oversee back-end operations including Receiving, Return to Vendor (RTV), and Freight. Collaborating closely with the Fulfillment Team ASM, you will ensure the store is "Grand Opening Day Ready" daily by maintaining correct merchandising and optimizing operational efficiency. You will have a central role in enforcing safety protocols and compliance throughout the store, while also partnering with the Store Manager and fellow ASMs to boost profitability, resolve issues, and facilitate associate training and development. Success in this position depends on strong planning, problem-solving, leadership skills, and the ability to lead and coordinate associates effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit and interview candidates, advising the Store Manager on hiring decisions.
- Recommend actions related to terminations, promotions, salary adjustments, and performance-based pay for associates.
- Communicate store and company objectives clearly to all associates.
- Provide coaching, both informal (on-floor) and formal (evaluations), to develop associate job performance.
- Define career advancement paths to reduce employee turnover across all process areas.
- Ensure operational excellence in all back-end functions.
- Manage associate staffing schedules to align with delivery truck arrivals.
- Oversee proper receiving practices, ensuring merchandise is accepted by carton count and safely moved to sales floors.
- Conduct morning and evening store walkthroughs with the Fulfillment Team and closing ASMs to maintain "Grand Opening Day Ready" status—full stocked shelves, clean aisles, accurate displays, and cleared receiving areas.
- Plan and prioritize tasks at shift commencement and dynamically adjust based on operational demands.
- Coordinate Receiving and Freight teams for smooth store readiness daily.
- Monitor Receiving and Freight efficiency through observation and data analysis, identifying trends and implementing solutions.
- Implement measures to reduce inventory shrinkage.
- Lead communication of store sales, events, and promotions (Monthly Playbook) to associates, emphasizing Process Team members.
- Evaluate associate training needs in sales and customer service and develop plans for improvement.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of Home Depot’s programs and services, including Credit, SF&I, ESPs, Pro Sales, and Tool Rental, to educate associates and customers.
- Train associates on sales and inventory reports tied to Key Performance Indicators for departments and store-wide.
- Ensure all scheduled daily safety inspections are completed.
- Follow up on safety audits, accident reports, and investigations.
- Manage proper training and compliance regarding hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal.
- Promote driver safety and Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance.
- Participate actively in implementing safety awareness initiatives.
- Establish and communicate performance standards for Receiving and Freight teams.
- Collaborate with Store Manager and other ASMs to develop strategies that drive sales and profitability.
- Lead associates and collaborate with peers to anticipate and resolve challenges and plan for events or seasonal changes.
- Verify financial deposit accuracy, markdowns, deliveries, time slips, and refunds.
- Adhere to standard procedures for opening and closing the store when scheduled.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Store Manager.
Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum one year in current position and meeting performance standards.
- At least two years of management experience.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Strong communication abilities.
- Proficient with computers and relevant software.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
