Role Overview and Communication
The Assistant Manager - HSEQ serves as a central communication link within the organization and externally. Internally, this role collaborates closely with the Safety Manager, Business Unit Managers, and supporting H&S personnel to report on HSEQ service delivery, assess site-level compliance, monitor progress of assigned HSEQ projects, and support training activities.
Externally, the individual acts as the primary site contact for expertise relating to HSEQ. They engage with clients, contractors, and external certification bodies to facilitate regulatory compliance and coordinate contractor management effectively across operations.
Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment Responsibilities
This position holds accountability to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, a safe working environment, secure systems of operation, and safety in plant and equipment, accompanied by providing necessary information and training.
The Assistant Manager is personally responsible for their own safety, the safety of personnel under their supervision, and others potentially impacted by company activities. Key duties include:
- Performing risk assessments for departmental activities to establish and enforce safe methods and systems of work.
- Verifying competence levels of all employees and contractors involved in their area of responsibility.
- Overseeing the reporting and investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near-miss events.
- Encouraging positive safety behaviors and leading by example in all occupational health and safety matters.
The role also grants the authority to halt work immediately if any health and safety risks are detected or if standards are compromised, empowering managers and supervisors to take decisive action for preventing unsafe conditions.
