Role Summary

The AI Backend Engineer is pivotal in delivering features rapidly without compromising quality or reliability. This position utilizes AI tools, such as Claude, to boost development efficiency while maintaining strong engineering standards. The role involves creating scalable, production-quality backend features that support business objectives and enhance user experience across Deel’s extensive global footprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, Designers, and QA teams to understand requirements, define scopes, and deliver smooth user experiences.
• Employ AI coding assistants like Claude to speed up feature creation by generating code templates and boilerplate, ensuring all AI-produced code undergoes rigorous human review before deployment.
• Design, build, and deploy AI-based products, workflows, and agents.
• Contribute technical expertise throughout all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle, including making architecture decisions, providing design feedback, and strategizing deployment.
• Develop robust features, APIs, databases, and infrastructure while troubleshooting and resolving issues swiftly without sacrificing quality.
• Take full ownership of features from design through deployment, testing, monitoring, and iterative improvements.
• Ensure the delivery of top-quality products through careful engineering practices and attentive customer-focused development.
• Maintain clear, constant communication with cross-functional teams, explaining technical limitations, translating requirements into practical solutions, and aligning stakeholders.
• Assist teams by promptly addressing questions, debugging efficiently, and offering solutions to complex challenges.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of experience as a Backend or Software Engineer, including shipping AI-enabled products, resolving production issues, and scaling applications.
• Proficiency in NodeJS or Python development, with a strong emphasis on writing clean, maintainable code adhering to best practices and design patterns.
• Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, notably PostgreSQL, and experience with ORM tools like Sequelize or TypeORM for query writing, performance tuning, and schema design.
• Proven track record of delivering products using the Claude AI tool, with the ability to effectively prompt AI models, critically evaluate AI-generated code, and balance manual and automated coding tasks.
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of clearly explaining technical concepts to non-technical audiences, documenting code and updates thoroughly, and excelling in asynchronous remote collaboration.
• Commitment to following organizational procedures ensuring quality through standards in code review, testing, deployment, and operational responsibility.
• Personal accountability with a focus on producing reliable and optimized services, resolving issues proactively, and enhancing system performance.
• Awareness of information security responsibilities, applying best practices in secure coding, data protection, and compliance adherence.
