Job description

Company Overview

Deel is a comprehensive platform that integrates payroll, HR, compliance, benefits, performance, and equipment management for global teams. Supporting over 150 countries, the platform utilizes AI-driven tools and proprietary payroll infrastructure to help businesses scale quickly and compliantly. With a distributed team of 7,000 people worldwide, Deel is an innovator in connecting global talent with leading companies.

Role Summary

This role focuses on enhancing the client-facing payroll experience at Deel. The goal is to create a streamlined, accurate, and flexible payroll process accessible to users regardless of their payroll expertise. Leading two engineering squads, the Staff Product Manager will develop scalable frameworks that adapt across various country requirements while maintaining compliance and user confidence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the vision and strategy for the payroll experience segment, managing two engineering teams with full ownership and decision-making authority.
  • Reimagine payroll workflows by removing manual checks and expertise dependencies, designing processes that work equally well for payroll novices and experts.
  • Develop global frameworks enabling localized payroll configurations without bespoke builds, to support scalable and consistent experiences.
  • Identify and track critical success metrics such as touchless payroll rate, accuracy, submission time, self-serve usage, filing reliability, and support contact volume, building dashboards for ongoing risk management.
  • Translate complex payroll issues into well-defined, actionable tasks for engineering teams, facilitating fast delivery and iterative learning.
  • Embed AI and data analytics in daily activities - from research and data interpretation to prompt engineering and client feedback analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years in product management, including at least 1 year at a senior or Staff PM level, with proven experience shipping impactful work independently.
  • A builder mentality, capable of handling ambiguous and broad challenges without a predefined roadmap, and thrives in autonomous settings.
  • A fast iterative approach to product development, comfortable making informed decisions with incomplete data and adjusting based on metrics.
  • Strong systems thinking, understanding interdependencies among teams, tools, compliance, and user experience within complex workflows.
  • Ability to work effectively in detail-oriented, high-risk environments where accuracy and speed are critical.
  • Excellent execution skills with clear, succinct communication and a bias toward action.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data platforms, and spreadsheet analysis to independently derive insights and build data views.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools daily for product management tasks, with concrete examples of adoption and experimentation.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in payroll, fintech, accounting, or tax domains where compliance and accuracy are essential.
  • Experience managing products spanning multiple regulatory regions, maintaining coherent user experiences amidst diverse rules.
  • Expertise in transforming complex, specialist workflows into accessible self-serve products suited for non-expert users.
  • Experience with scaling products or organizations during hypergrowth, adapting architecture and processes as needed.

Culture and Role Expectations

This position requires high autonomy and ownership; you will lead your area like a founder, making strategic decisions without extensive supervision. You must be comfortable moving quickly with limited information, prioritizing data-driven iterations over consensus, and balancing system-wide trade-offs. Intellectual honesty, rigor, and clear communication are essential traits.

Compensation and Rewards

  • Salary ranges are competitive and localized to your country’s currency based on objective criteria like skills and experience.
  • Stock grants available depending on role and employment status.
  • Additional perks tailored to employment status and country specifics.
  • Optional flexible workspace memberships through IWG.

Diversity and Inclusion

Deel is an equal opportunity employer that encourages individuals from all backgrounds and legally protected groups to apply. The company supports accessibility needs during recruitment and employs fair hiring practices guided by privacy and AI governance compliance.
