Utility Locator

Overview

USIC, recognized as the national leader in underground utility damage prevention, is hiring Utility Locators to join their team in Algonquin, IL. This role involves independent, on-the-ground fieldwork focused on protecting vital infrastructure by accurately locating underground utilities such as telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer lines.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate underground utility lines correctly and safely, including telecom, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Conduct meticulous searches within assigned locations, marking utility placements precisely and documenting findings thoroughly with photos and reports.

Work Conditions

These full-time roles primarily involve daytime work with a typical 48-hour turnaround on locates, requiring availability for some weekend and holiday work, overtime, and on-call shifts including nights and weekends as operational needs dictate.

Candidate Requirements

• Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions; previous experience outdoors is beneficial.
• Technology proficient to manage modern locating tools and ticket management systems.
• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and be on call.
• Pass drug screening; valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Physically capable of walking, bending, lifting up to 75 pounds, working in confined spaces, and able to distinguish wiring color codes used for marking utilities.
• Strong reading skills to interpret tickets, maps, and prints accurately.
• Effective communication skills to interact professionally with customers, contractors, and colleagues.

Compensation

The starting wage is $21.00 per hour for entry-level locators, rising to $33.00 per hour for those with extensive previous locating experience.
